Indian Lake is a town in Hamilton County, New York, United States. The population was 1,471 at the 2000 census.
The Town of Indian Lake is on the east border of the county. The Town of Indian Lake was established in 1858 from the Towns of Gilman (now defunct), Long Lake, and Wells. The town was originally formed from Johnstown in Fulton County, New York before Hamilton County was established. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 689.5 km (266.2 mi). 654.8 km (252.8 mi) of it is land and 34.7 km (13.4 mi) of it (5.03%) is water.
The town lies within the Adirondack State Park. The east town line is the border of Essex County and Warren County. As of the census2 of 2000, there were 1,471 people, 651 households, and 425 families residing in the town. The population density was 2.2/km (5.8/mi). There were 1,722 housing units at an average density of 2.6/km (6.8/mi). The racial makeup of the town was 97.96% White, 0.34% African American, 0.14% Native American, 0.07% Asian, 0.75% from other races, and 0.75% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.22% of the population.
